Sharing
Sharing in VisualDrive Server is the process of granting access to files, folders, or drives you own. Shared items can be viewed and edited by other people, depending on the assigned permissions.
Sharing an item
To share an item, you grant permissions for that item to a user or group. All access to items in VisualDrive Server is controlled exclusively by per-item permissions. There are no other methods for sharing content that can bypass the configured permissions.
When you share an item with a user:
- It appears in the user’s Shared with me section in the web interface.
- The user can view or modify it according to the assigned permissions.
- If it’s in a syncable location, such as a drive, the user can sync it to their computer using the OneDrive app.
Unsharing an item
You can revoke access to a shared item at any time. Simply remove the user or group’s permissions from the item to unshare it. Once you do, the item will disappear from the user’s Shared with me list, and they will no longer have access to it.
Identifying shared items
Both the File Explorer and web interface use special indicators to show that an item has been shared. For instance, in File Explorer, a “people” icon appears next to the item’s name.
